Parental involvement

Craignish Primary School is at the heart of a supportive community and parents/carers are encouraged to be involved in aspects of school life. Parents have been involved in creating learning experiences for pupils beyond what is taught in the classroom, for example involved sessions about bee keeping, environmental issues, photography and even a portable museum linking to history and local area topics. We are fortunate to have a pool of talents in terms of our parents and encourage them to be involved in the learning experiences we offer in school. Parents have also been involved in supervision for trips, for example theatre trips and swimming lessons.

The Long Term Curriculum Plan for Craignish Primary School was developed with parental input and parents have opportunities to support their children as outlined above and through homework tasks or extension activities delivered through Google Classroom and other means. If parents have concerns about any aspect of their child’s learning they are encouraged to speak to the class teacher and/or the head teacher so that we can work together to support any issues.

The head teacher sends out a weekly newsletter to all parents which keeps them up to date with what is happening in school and parents are encouraged to respond to this if they wish to. If communication is needed for individual pupils this is done via email or telephone.

Homework

Homework is allocated on Google Classroom and usually takes the form of reading, spellings, number work or an extension of what has been learnt in class.

Becoming Involved in School

Craignish Primary School encourages parents to be involved in school events and in delivering aspects of the curriculum, particularly where parents have a level of expertise. In normal times we hold monthly Curricular Cafes where parents are invited to come into school to share their children’s learning and to talk with teachers and the head teacher about curriculum matters. There is also a celebration assembly where we celebrate the achievements of our children.

The school values the important part that parents/carers play in their children’s education and sees partnership with parents/carers as an effective way of enhancing children’s achievements and promoting better school ethos and communication.
